Tuesday 4/16

Due to the snow, we can't start our new project that requires taking photos outside.  Instead, we will have a make up day today.  This will give students an opportunity to work on any projects they are missing so far.  Only 5 weeks before Finals start!  Make up work now so it doesn't pile up later!!

Friday 4/12

Today we edited any last minute slides/photos for our stop frame animation.  (30 Minutes)   Then as a class we counted how many pictures we had imported and figured out timing for our animation based on 24 fps (frames per second).  Essentially we had 24 pictures per second of video.  Please see slide below for timing.  Once everything was complete, students graded themselves on the Stop Frame Animation Rubric and then turned it in via posting in under 2D Graphics-Duffy on the StudentShare Drive (S: Drive)

How do I get to the StudentShare Drive and how do I save my project there?
  1. Go to your "Start" button
  2. Open "Computer"
  3. Click on OHS Drive or S: Drive
  4. Click on StudentShare
  5. Click on 2D Graphics-Duffy
  6. Right click and create a new folder
  7. Name that folder with your own name
  8. Save your Stop Frame animation AND save your pictures.
  9. When I open your Name folder, I should see two things
    1. Stop Frame Animation
    2. Photos

Friday 3/22

Today students will begin to brainstorm what story they want to tell in their stop frame animations.

On a blank sheet of paper students need to plan the following:
  1. Draw out 20 squares for their storyboard.  In each square you will draw out the first picture of your animation.  Each square after that will have a slight movement or change to the picture before it.  In this stage you are planing out what each picture will be.  20 pictures/slides is only the start
  2. Once your 20 squares are complete, tell me what is going to happen in the rest of your story.
  3. Tell me what materials you need to complete this animation.
At the end of class we will have our first ARTiFacts! Quiz.

ARTiFact # 14

Monday 3/11

Today students are going to finish their "My Movie" in Windows Live Movie Maker.  You must have a minimum of 20 slide in your movie.  When you have all your pictures imported, either from the internet of photos that you have access to, you will need to chance the speed of your slide show.  How to change your speed is listed below.

Changing the speed or duration of your movie:
  1. Go to the Edit tab in Movie Maker
  2. Highlight all of your photos, either one by one or in rows.
  3. Change the "duration" to .20 which is 20 seconds.
  4. Press play

When you are finished, just save it to your H: Drive.  No need to email it to me, we will be taking a look at these in class next Monday!

When you are finished, I want you to start brainstorming a simple story line that you will be creating on sticky notes!  Sticky note animation is the simplest form of Stop Frame animation, which we will be working with for the next few weeks!
What do I do?
  1. Grab a sticky note pad
  2. Begin from the back
  3. Start with drawing one object or a scene
  4. Move to the next sticky note, anything that you don't want to move, redraw in the same place (you can see through the sticky note, so redrawing will be easy) Then redraw what you want to move but with something changed.  For instance, if you draw a person, you could move one leg at a time, or you could just redraw your person with a slight change of where that person is on the paper.
  5. Draw one movement change on each sticky note from front to back.  So on and so forth...
  6. Draw as many sticky note pages as you can to form a complete story!
  7. Start from the back and fan through to the front and you will see your animation come to life!
  8. Watch this videos for what sticky note animation looks like! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRYn16atpuw
If you need more pages grab more from the pile of sticky notes, or if you have too many, take off extra and put them in the sticky note pile!

Thursday 3/7

Today students took a look at their logo critiques, changed anything that needed to be done to enhance their designs, and sent them in for their final grade.  Towards the end of class, we explored Windows Live Movie Maker.  They will be creating a slide show "a snapshot" of their life from being born to now.  Students must have a minimum of 20 slides imported in order to Live Movie Maker.

Critique Questions

While looking at the logo designs, think about the following questions:
Please write comments on as many as you can!  Minimum of 10 comments.  Make sure we are getting to EVERY ONES DESIGNS!  If we have any blank ones...we will keep going! :)

1.  Can you tell from the design what club or company is represented?

2.  What would you add or delete to enhance the design?

3.  What do you like about the design and why?

4. Is the design too busy or too plain?

5. Any other constructive criticism or praises?

Tuesday 3/5

Good morning!  Today we are going to finish our Typography designs in Photoshop!  A few things to remember...when you remove your background picture, make SURE you can tell what your image is!  If your neighbor can't recognize it, continue designing!  Don't forget about your font options and changing colors to get the effect of your image!  Email me your project when it is finished!  duffyohs@gmail.com

Friday! 3/1

Today students will continue working on their Typography final projects!  We will work on these the entire class period!   Students--check to make sure your images is coming through when you take away your actual pictures!  Play with your fonts, colors, sizes, etc!

Wednesday 2/28

Today, as a class, we will discuss the typography PowerPoint that is located on Cole.  We will discuss how font types, colors, sizes, etc. effect how a viewer sees a design.  We will discuss what styles work best with different scenarios.  Students will begin their final project in Typography using words to create a visual image.  Students need to use the word of their object and or words that relate to their object to visually show their objects shape.  Examples below.  Students may use any object they choose!

2. Students will also begin working on their Words as Images project, the first of two typography projects!  We will work on these the rest of the class period!

Friday, February 15, 2013

Wednesday & Friday

Today we finished up any lingering logo activities and emailed them to duffyohs@gmail.com.  We also began experimenting with Typography and learning how to move, warp, and twist letters and words to fit in or around a shape.

On Friday we finished up our shape/word designs and began creating shapes and animals using only the words in their name.  For instance, we created a giraffe shape only using the letters g-i-r-a-f-f-e.   The challenge of the day was to visually create a turtle only using the letters of turtle.  Students may use the word more than once in their designs.  Next class we will see who created the best turtle design.

Monday 2/11

Students need to continue working on their Logo Designs!   Make sure YOU have created everything in your design...no pictures, logos, or designs taken from the internet!  If you want to re-create a picture you found, you MUST REDRAW the image in photoshop!  Take your time, think about your colors, fonts, and readability.  Who is your viewer?  Are they going to remember you design?  Does your design show what your club or company does?

When you think you are done, save save save in your H: Drive!!!!

Thusday!

Today, students continued with brainstorming logo ideas by researching clubs and companies.  They needed to choose a club or a company during this hour and begin their designing process by starting out with 3 sketches of what they want their logo to look like.  Then the designs must be OKey me before they begin designing on the computer!  We will be working on these logos for a few class periods.
